Creating Access: Your Path to NACO & SACO Contribution

Have you ever wondered how the Library of Congress subject and name headings are created and who is in charge of deciding what headings are added to LCSH and NAF? Discover how participation in the Name Authority Cooperative (NACO) and Subject Authority Cooperative (SACO) funnels empowers librarians to make real impacts. You don’t have to be a cataloger or work for a large academic library to participate. This session will cover paths to participating, training expectations, and real-world examples of authority contributions that enhance access for users everywhere. You will hear from three experts:

  • Erica Bruchko, African American Studies and U.S. History Librarian at Emory University and former Subject Co-Chair of the African American Subject Funnel
  • Guy Frost, Professor of Library Science and Catalog Librarian at Valdosta State University and current chair of the Georgia NACO funnel and NACO Occult/Esoteric Funnel
  • Suzanne Graham, Discovery Services Librarian at Athens Technical College and former chair of the SACO Law Funnel

Webinar structure and arrangement by Sofia Slutskaya, Head of Resource Description at Emory University Woodruff Library; sponsored by GLA Technical Services Interest Group (TSIG).
