Three themes, three locations, one day. On March 14, 2026, Sequoyah Regional Library System (SRLS) presented SequoyahCon, a free community event celebrating fandom and fun. Hosted by R.T. Jones Memorial Library, Pickens County Library, and Woodstock Public Library, SequoyahCon presents an opportunity for community members to experience three miniature fan conventions at no cost. 

At each host location, SequoyahCon had its own unique theme. At R.T. Jones Memorial Library, community members could celebrate all things superhero - from making super villain seed bombs to competing in super hero trivia. Patrons visiting Pickens County Library took to the stars, learning about astrophotography with a NASA ambassador and practicing their Jedi skills at the Lightsaber Academy. At Woodstock Public Library, pirates walked among the stacks and danced at an Under the Sea bubble dance party. With superheroes, aliens, and pirates abound, SequoyahCon is no ordinary day at the library.

One fan favorite of the day was the SuperDogs Expo at R.T. Jones Memorial Library. Community members were amazed as they watched real-life SuperDogs complete agility courses and show off their service dog skills. To demonstrate how super a service dog can be, young community members were asked to hide different scented pouches around the room for one of the dogs to find. Pouches were hidden under blankets, in bags, and even in a trash can. Once told to find the pouches, the service dog raced to locate them and return them to its handler. The event demonstrated the real-life super powers that service animals can have and the difference they can make in the lives of those who rely on them.

Another highlight from the day came from Pickens County Library, where NASA Solar System Ambassador Nicholas Johnson led a panel on astrophotography. Johnson discussed beginner-friendly ways that community members can get started with taking photos of planets and galaxies, detailing basic telescope functions, camera requirements, and more. 

Though this year’s SequoyahCon locations took place across multiple counties within the Sequoyah Regional Library System, many families made an effort to attend all three events. One patron remarked that she brings her family to SequoyahCon every year, and mentioned that she loves getting to spend a day with her family without the expectation of spending money. 

Connecting the community with ideas and opportunities to explore, learn, and create is the mission of Sequoyah Regional Library System. SRLS is proud to offer multiple opportunities for community members of all ages to visit the library, learn something new, and create lifelong memories.
